On my server blog and in my book,Â I spend a great deal of time focusing on the special needs of certain groups of guests.Â Today I turn that focus to guestsÂ that are in town for a convention.Â The needs and desires of these guests are actually quite different from most tables you will serve.Â This presents a challenge, but also an opportunity for the server prepared toÂ meet these needs.Â That is why I think it is important to understand a bit about serving the conventioneer.

David Hayden was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. He took his first serving job in 1996. Since that time, he has worked for over a dozen different restaurant companies. He has held both hourly and salaried positions at independent and corporate restaurants. He has waited on over 100,000 guests and trained hundreds of servers. He has been named "Best Server in Kansas City" the last three years by the local weekly paper.
