UAW negotiators convinced GM to give the union full authorization power and the ability to monitor the number of temporary workers. The agreement requires GM to obtain the union`s agreement in order to supplement its workforce for direct time, overtime or weekend work at each plant covered by the agreement. GM can only employ part-time workers with the agreement of the union. The contract for 2019 removes the current $12,000 cap on profit-benefit payments. Employees earn US$1,000 for every billion dollars earned in North America without borders. In 2015, the contracts expired on September 14, 2015 and negotiations were concluded without a strike. FCA has been the main undertaking this year, but UAW-FCA members rejected the first provisional agreement. UAW-FCA members approved the second provisional agreement on October 22, 2015 with 77% of the vote. UAW-GM members ratified their provisional agreement by 55% of the vote on November 6, 2015 and UAW Ford members ratified the final provisional agreement by 51% of the vote on November 20, 2015. 2019 UAW negotiators face many difficult issues and contract negotiations may take some time this year.
