Server Training For Intelligent Servers

I am continuing preview week with a peek at the upcoming focus on server training and more specifically server training manuals.  I recently created, narrated, and released a video discussing my beliefs here.  They can be summarized fairly simply: most restaurant server training manuals are written with the assumption that both the server and guest are of below average intelligence.  I think this is a tremendous mistake.  I have spent my adult life working with restaurant servers.  I am convinced that some of the most intelligent people I know are in this business.  I have worked with people who are now doctors, lawyers, authors, business owners, and a variety of other professions.  They had to suffer through training manuals that insulted their intelligence based on the preconceived notions of the authors.

I think this is bull.

If restaurant owners want better results from their staff, they need to provide them with training materials that will produce it.  If restaurant servers want better skills and tips, they need to put aside the elementary training and take control of their own training.  This is why I write this site and why I wrote my book.  Learn a little more about this concept, watch the video explanation, and find out what you can do to provide intelligent training by reading Restaurant Server Training For NOT Dummies.
